Ian represents a range of major UK property developers, investment funds, property companies both locally and nationally, as well as private individuals.
He has helped attract major names such as Bosch, Siemens and Poundworld to the region. With strong negotiation and asset management skills, Ian was also recently involved with helping to turn a business park in Leeds, which had been redundant for 10 years, into a commercial success.
He joined the company in 1989, becoming a partner in 2000 and has recently been promoted to the Executive Board.
When not at the office, he can be found watching all manner of sport generally both at home and abroad, particularly his local rugby union club, The Old Brodleians.
David P. Priestley
As a Director and head of Property Management, David brings over 30 years’ experience, the majority of which has been spent building up the Property Management team at Carter Towler into one of the largest property management firms in Leeds.
With a key focus on adding value, David and his team are highly regarded in the industry and provide a competitive but specialist service to clients, who particularly value that all client relationships are handled at director and senior surveyor level. Read Full
Whilst currently responsible for a team that successfully manages over 3000 properties throughout the North, Midlands and East Anglia, David is equally proud that both client and staff retention at Carter Towler is one of the highest in the business. Another proud boast is the company not only retained all its key staff throughout the recent recession, but actually recruited during this time and many staff have been with the company throughout their careers, several over 20 years.
Clients range from high net worth individuals to major national property organisations and the team handle portfolios numbering a handful of properties to those in excess of three hundred properties.
With his rugby days now behind him, away from the office, David enjoys the more leisurely pace of golf and spending time on days out and trips away with his wife, Michelle, and border collie, Ben.
Richard L. Fraser

Richard joined Carter & Co Commercial in 1985 to deal with all aspects of office and industrial agency.
In 1989 he started concentrating his efforts on office instructions and now specialises in office agency whilst also providing advice on professional valuation matters relating to office properties. C. David Towler
David has over 30 years’ experience in the property industry and has dual responsibility for Carter Towler’s Investment division, as well as the firm’s Landlord and Tenant team.
David brings a depth of knowledge through his many years working principally in investment and commercial agency and personal service that has seen his appointment by clients ranging from Co-operative Group, Asda, Wm Morrisons, Leeds University, Yorkshire County Cricket Club as well as major national firms and property companies. He acts on multi-million pound investment properties, including portfolio transactions as well as smaller scale deals and has completed sales and purchases throughout the UK, although with an emphasis on the Yorkshire region and surrounds.
David is a third generation Towler (his Grandfather established B P Towler in 1948) and has been an RICS Registered Valuer since 2011.
A favourite day away from the office would involve some sport, ideally cricket or golf or a walk in the Dales followed by a good pub lunch.
Tim J. Towler
As a third generation “Towler”, Tim boasts some clients going back to 1948, when his grandfather first established B P Towler.
Responsible for one of three Property Management teams, Tim mainly acts for private individuals managing a mixed portfolio, including retail, industrial and office premises as well as a considerable number of flats and houses. Read Full
Like his family before him, a particular strength of Tim’s is to work closely with his clients to understand their business requirements and then manage teams to deliver professional management services of the highest quality.
Accordingly, clients value the extensive experience, knowledge and reliability of Tim and his team, some of which have been working with him for over twenty years.
Tim is also responsible for overseeing the Accounts team at Carter Towler.
Never one to sit still for very long, Tim is also highly motivated away from the office, regularly racing in half marathons both locally and abroad and is also a keen cyclist.
Tim M. Rhodes
Tim brings nearly thirty years’ experience and extensive commercial skills to the Property Management and Valuation teams at Carter Towler.
He joined the firm as a partner in 2002 from Eddisons and brings valuable general practice and transactional experience, having worked for clients throughout the UK, particularly in the industrial and office sectors and for high net worth individuals across Yorkshire. Read Full
A former chairman and treasurer of the Industrial Agents Society, he made the switch from Agency to Valuation and Management over three years ago.
Clients include major pension funds and financial institutions, banks and commercial clients, and all appreciate the extensive commercial knowledge and experience he brings, which has helped deliver a four-fold growth in the Valuation Department in a short time.
A keen sailor, Tim particularly enjoys spending time in the Aegean around Greece and Turkey and is trying to encourage his young family to follow his passion for the sport.
Matthew brings a keen eye for detail and an experienced, multi-disciplinary background covering property management. which has enabled a strong unit to be forged across the Property Management team he heads up at Carter Towler.
This approach has seen the firm grow a Co-operative portfolio from around forty properties in 2002 to over five hundred today and which now accounts for nearly half his team’s work. Covering a wide variety of sectors including land, retail and commercial property, Matthew is responsible for a region covering the whole of the north of England.
Matthew joined the company in 1992 and graduated from Sheffield Hallam with a 2:1 honours degree and became a Chartered Surveyor in 2000.
Chris D. Priestley

Chris has over fifteen years’ private practice experience in delivering Building Consultancy advice and services to a variety of both public and private sector clients.
Having joined Carter Towler in 2011, he has grown the Building Consultancy team to become an integral part of the Carter Towler proposition, offering a full range of services including building services, planned maintenance programming, dilapidations, party wall advice and project management.
As well as working for existing retained Carter Towler clients, Chris is building up an extensive independent portfolio of his own on the back of consistent first class delivery. A keen eye for detail and a commercial approach to surveying are the core principles of the services Chris and his team aim to provide.
A passionate cricketer and junior cricket coach, he also enjoys the occasional round of golf and spending time with his wife and daughters at the family cottage near Grassington.
